Ace provides Poquoson City Public Schools with new Server / SAN Solution.

Located just north of Langley Air Force Base, in the Newport News / Hampton, Virginia area of the state, Chris Sprague, Network Specialist for Poquoson City Public Schools (PCPS), was facing some real challenges in the spring of 2010. Tasked with limited budget and the goal of achieving a fully redundant infrastructure of virtualized servers and storage as quickly as possible across his split campus environment of four schools, he wasn’t happy with what he was hearing from the big multi-national firms. Working on his new Ace Vision 6AT Series workstation, he suddenly realized that the answer was staring up from his fingertips.

Additional Information about StarWind Software iSCSI SAN
and the PCPS Implementation

Burlington, Mass. – September 13, 2010 - StarWind Software Inc., a global leader and pioneer in SAN software for building iSCSI storage servers, is proud to announce that Poquoson City Public Schools (PCPS) in Virginia deployed a complete SAN and disaster recovery solution using StarWind iSCSI Enterprise SAN for High Availability with servers and storage provided by Ace Computers. PCPS was able to take advantage of StarWind´s recent announcement of discounts for educational and non-profit organizations to benefit from the cost-efficiency and scalability of the StarWind iSCSI SAN, simplifying storage and server management while increasing business continuity levels. PCPS is one of the first US educational organizations to take advantage of StarWind´s Educational and non-profit discount program.

Under the discount program educational and non-profit organizations receive special discounts in time for the beginning of a new academic year, helping to save budget funds by implementing a reliable enterprise class iSCSI SAN for a fraction of the cost of competing SAN´s with dual controllers. StarWind expects more educational institutions and non-profit organizations to take advantage of this offer in such difficult budgetary times.

StarWind iSCSI Enterprise SAN allows PCPS to perform off-site data replication for disaster recovery and backup, take unlimited snapshots of volumes for fast backup and restores from disk. Thin provisioning lets PCPS save disk space and eliminate the need to change volumes at the operating system or application layer when provisioning additional storage to the SAN. PCPS is running the StarWind SAN in active-active mode for redundancy between Ace Computers SAN controller nodes for a true enterprise class SAN solution at a fraction of the cost associated with traditional hardware SAN solutions.

"We are extremely pleased to help educational institutions like PCPS get more IT capabilities for lower cost. StarWind is committed to making highly available SAN´s affordable for schools, colleges and universities. Our relationship with Poquoson City Public Schools proves we are committed to helping educational customers acquire enterprise class SAN solutions at affordable prices," said Artem Berman, CEO of StarWind Software, Inc.
